Damn lawsuit-happy people.

Well, lawsuit-happy America is at it again, this time with fascism running rampant. Okay, maybe not. It's difficult for my simple little brain to understand the full reasoning behind this.

Trans fats have been in the news so much lately, there is hardly anyone in America that has not heard about them. All the news about trans fats has been negative, so it's obvious that people who know about trans fats know they're bad. Now, given the fact that most people have a choice in where and what they eat, they should know to stay away from them.

That being said and done, why the heck is the Center for Science in the Public Interest suing Burger King? I know the general population of the US is not the most intelligent, me included, but I feel we should have a choice in what we eat, even if it is bad for us. Do we really need to force Burger King and other establishments to change their cooking methods? Come on, there are a million other things that are doing damage to our society and environment that could be changed, clear cutting, air pollution, water pollution, etc. To keep on with my rant, BK is a restaurant. There are 50 million other places to eat, especially where BK's are located. We can always eat somewhere else. If we force them to do anything, it should be to post signs warning us of the use of trans fats. To be honest, with the quality of food at fast food places such as BK and McD's, the use of trans fats isn't really going to make a difference, the food is still bad for you.

I guess all I trying to say is let the restaurants do what they want. We have the choice to eat there or not. If people know the risk of trans fats and still decide to eat foods cooked in them, who are we to say they can't? Restaurants can decide on their own when to make changes that will affect their business.

McD's going eco-friendly?....

Read article here.

So McDonald's finally realized eco-friendliness isn't the enemy. Now, customers in the UK and Ireland can enjoy sustainable and most likely, organic, coffee. Hopefully this will lead to fair-trade coffee at all McD's around the world. Once McD's fully realizes the potential income of the natural foods revival, it can lead to great things.

First let me fill you in on some info about me. I tend to be considered a "hippie with a haircut" by most of my friends. Though I'm not a vegetarian, I tend to lean more towards that diet than any other. I also refuse to eat low quality food if possible. Hey, beggars can't be choosers. So, on a regular basis, I tell myself to not eat at places like McDonald's.

Anyway, I foresee many people buying eco-friendly coffee from McDonald's, giving a good boost in profits. Though I despise McD's for many reasons, if enough people buy their coffee, McDonald's could move on to improve their food. Come on, think about it. Organic free-range burgers from McD's? With organic toppings? A side of organic fries? Oh yeah, I would be eating there.

So as ridiculous as it may seem, spending hard earned money at a crappy place maybe the way to turn it into a decent place. As long as you buy the eco-friendly products only. Now, if only they'd start selling eco coffee in the US.

Animal activism a thing of the past?

So, Congress decided to pass the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act
(read full text here). We can
no longer protest any business that deals with animals or animal products including; "a commercial or academic enterprise that uses or sells animals or animal products for profit, food or fiber production, agriculture, education, research, or testing" (such as vivisection labs), rodeos and zoos. Well, technically we can, but if the business loses profit or someone or something is hurt or stolen, we go to jail or face a fine. So, if we persuade someone to not attend a rodeo or circus, and the business can prove it, we face the possibility of a fine and/or jail. What kind of bs is that? Now we just sit around and watch animal abuses, legal or not, happen?

I guess at some point, I should inform anyone reading, that the Act was
passed by only five (5) votes. How? They labeled it as a non-controversial bill even though there were over 150 groups that opposed it, such as the National Lawyers Guild and the New York Bar Association, not to mention the Humane Society and the ASPCA.

I'm begging everyone out there to read the act, and do something about it, write your people in the government, pass the word, and protest it.
